Can You Say Spectacle?

We have decided that no matter where we go, (except maybe church, but probably even then) this is the word that best describes us. SPECTACLE. Especially when we go hiking or biking or snowshoeing or skiing. You just don't see a lot of large families out doing these sorts of things. We may see a couple carrying a baby in a back pack and MAYBE a toddler walking, but that's about it. No one else seems to be out traipsing around with 5 kids. And just for fun,we draw more attention to ourselves by doing things like this:

Yep. That's Shawn skiing up the canyon with one kid strapped to the front of him, while pulling 2 of them behind him in a sled. (Kind of makes me look like a slacker, don't you think?) You can't believe the looks and comments we get. Sometimes I think people are trying to avert their eyes but they just can't bring themselves to look away and miss out on the spectacle that we are. That's right people, we have 5 kids and we brought them out in public! Oh well. We're having fun either way and at this point we just think its funny. After skiing/hiking up about a mile, the kids rode sleds all the way back down. They were squealing, laughing and screaming all the way down. I think we'll probably have to do it again. That was Amelia sliding by. My camera wasn't fast enough to catch anything but her feet.
The kids could have spent hours doing this. We had to drag them away kicking and screaming when it was so dark that we couldn't see anymore.

I think Rob is sold on cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing, so as soon as we can equip ourselves, we'll double the spectacle. Shawn will still win the man prize though, since I doubt Rob will be willing to get three of our kids up the hill. :)

It's true! You guys are very 'hip' for having five kids! :)

So fun! It is not that you have five kids, it is that you are doing really cool activities with them that most people don't have the guts to try and manage. We would love to join you sometime. We will attempt to stay well.
