A Banner Day in the Biking World (At least for the Stringhams)

Today was a beautiful, sunny day. The kind of day that I know is probably just a teaser since spring is still technically a couple weeks away, but it provided us with sunshine and a desire to play outside. It was tough to decide whether to ski or bike today, but biking won out. (And ended up being the theme of our day.) Shawn and I went on our first bike ride of the 2012 season. This is how I felt about it:
This is how Shawn felt about it:
What better way to celebrate than with a bike ride up Emigration Canyon - one of our favorites. (Plus it was a way to get our starting times for the season. Here's hoping that all my climbs after this are faster! I guess 39:45 isn't too bad for an early season ride, but I think I can do better. And of course, Shawn handily beat me with a time of 37:40.)
When we came home, this is what Duff did. She just climbed on her bike and rode away. (The training wheels are off the ground.) Seriously, few things are as great as having your kids learn to ride a bike on their own. And it's really awesome when it happens with very little effort from us! It quickly became apparent that this bike was quite a bit too small for her, so we had to do some shuffling.
So Duffy moved up to Amelia's bike - and took off!
Of course, that meant that Amelia got to move up to Samantha's old bike:

Which left poor Samantha with no bike to ride. Lucky for her, Shawn didn't think that was right and took her to remedy the situation. She came home with this beach cruiser beauty.
She was pretty excited. (We won't talk about the major screaming/crying fit Amelia threw in the bike store that first got her sent to the car and them warranted everyone driving home to put her in bed before returning to the bike shop. Because we just don't need to bring that up.)
Anyway, I think by the end of the day everyone (except maybe Amelia) was feeling pretty happy about things in the biking world. Here's Samantha riding off into the sunset on her new wheels.
Looking forward to many more sunny biking days!
