The Zoo

Generally, at the first signs of sunshine and/or warmth, someone starts asking about going to the zoo. It turned out that we didn't choose the best "warmish" day to go because it was overcast and windy, but we managed to enjoy ourselves.Peter is at just the right age to take to the zoo - at least for my personal enjoyment. He is fascinated by the animals and so excited when he spots them, but a little bit nervous if they get too close. He keeps me entertained watching the animals with his young eyes.
The cooler weather meant that the animals were pretty active, which is always nice.
And, of course, no trip to the zoo would be complete without a ride on the carousel or the train. (Peter was also thrilled about this, trains being one of his great loves right now.)
A little disappointing that the baby elephant was napping in the background there, but both of the kids were fascinated watching the mom eat. We sat there for a good 10 minutes before I convinced them to move on because I was getting cold.

We are excited to go back in a couple of weeks to see the dinosaurs all finished and working. (Actually, I'm excited to go back and see them, but both Duff and Peter were a little apprehensive whenever we saw them. And Duff wasn't very excited to learn that they will move and make noise when they are finished. Maybe I'll have to take the older kids for that part.) It should be really cool. They were setting up dinosaurs all over the zoo and hooking everything up for the animatronics. I think it will be ready in mid-May. (Of course, you'll have to be willing to fight all of the school groups that are squeezing in a zoo field trip before school is out. We did.)

Either way, we're always up for a trip to the zoo, so call if you're interested in joining us.

Too bad you don't love your oldest children enough to take them to the zoo in the spring. Totally understand, though.

The boys ARE at such a fun age for the zoo. They want to go every day! When we went yesterday the dinos were moving and one was spraying water out of its mouth.

Next time I WILL call - I was there the very next day enjoying MY 2 year old's reactions to everything! It is a great zoo age. I haven't told Chase about the dinos yet because I know the instant I do he will be dragging me up there.
