Spring Break Chicago - Day 3

Wednesday was another action packed day.  We started out with a visit to the field museum.  (You'll have to excuse the poor quality photos.  We didn't bring an actual camera with us to Chicago.  Duh! I know.  So we had to settle for phone pictures.)
There was a lovely exhibit on Ghengis Khan.
And a really cool exhibit on mummies.  (No photos allowed in either of those areas.)  But the kids favorite was definitely this one - going underground with all the creepy crawlies.  First we had to go through a shrinking machine and then there we were, underground with all the dirt and bugs.
Samantha LOVES earthworms.  (Jonas can't stand them.)  She was pretty happy to be able to get so close and personal with one.
Woody was almost carried off by this disgusting thing, but we saved him.
Lots of interactive stuff.  The littles loved crawling in and on everything they could.

(Seriously, what is with the finger up the nose pictures?)

Once we were big again, we looked at lots of things with magnifiers, studied lots of rocks and things,
and of course, got a good look at Sue - the most complete T-Rex skeleton ever found.

Jonas got caught up in watching sea creatures for a while.  (Big surprise.)  He kind of enjoyed wandering the museum on his own and being able to see things at his own pace.  It's awesome when your kids are old enough to do that!

Lots of dinosaurs to see.

It's true that there may have been tears from time to time on our trip, but they were pretty few and far between for the most part.  (I think the only real tantrum didn't take place until the drive home when we had what we will refer to as the Corn Palace incident, which involved mainly, Amelia.)
This little incident was over pretty quickly as seen in the photos.

Everyone felt pretty cool in their 3-D glasses.
Seriously, they make a good fashion statement, don't you think?

Jonas was kind enough to share his glasses with Woody for a little while.

We had to leave the museum before seeing everything, but there was so much to do and so little time!
We left the field museum and went straight to tea at the American Girl store.  (Well, at least the girls did.)  Fortunately, we had our American Girl dolls with us.  (This is one of the advantages of sending all of your luggage ahead on the moving truck and not having to pack it all into carry on luggage for the plane.)
Fran joined us there, and so did my brother Matt, and his daughter, Clara.  (Matt came as a last minute substitute for Anne.)  They were a little late, so I missed taking pictures of them.

Everyone studying the menu. (Not that you choose what to get.  It's a set menu for everyone, but still fun to look at.)

Mmmm.  Yummy.

While the girls were enjoying their tea, which I thought was delicious,  (some of my picky eaters didn't appreciate everything on the menu - so I helped them out,), the boys kept themselves busy at the lego store. Woody and Peter were both thrilled to find this outside the doors.

There were lots of cool things to look at there.
When we finished up our tea (and shopping) at American Girl, I had to go and see what the boys had found, so everyone had a chance to visit the lego store.  All in all, this day ended up being a bit financially costly.  Oh well, we aren't in Chicago very often.
