A few months back, Taylor Swift concert tickets went on sale. We didn't buy any at the time (despite the fact that we have 2 or 3 of Taylor's biggest fans living at our house,) and of course, it sold out. We heard how ALL of Samantha's friends had tickets and were going. Repeatedly. As the concert grew closer, there was more and more talk about it at school which upset Samantha immensely since she knew she wasn't going. Unbeknownst to her, Shawn was carefully checking ksl.com and other sites and knew there were plenty of tickets still available, so he bought some a couple days before. Finally, the morning of the concert arrived and Samantha came upstairs totally and completely depressed because Taylor Swift was here and she wasn't going.
We kept reassuring her that she would come in concert again and that we would go out for ice cream or something fun instead. She wasn't appeased much by that, but what could she do?
We told Amelia and Samantha to go get dressed so we could go out to eat (we had spent the day with Jonas and Duffy, knowing we were taking the girls out later). Samantha was still mad and miserable as we asked them where they wanted to go. They didn't have many answers so we started mentioning restaurants to them. After some discussion, they were trying to agree on a place when Shawn said, "How about instead of going to the restaurant, we go to the Taylor Swift Concert?" I was video taping them and was pretty underwhelmed by Samantha's response after all of her whining and complaining about it, but I think she was just in shock because she was totally buzzing by the time we did get to dinner. Amelia was so excited - and Samantha definitely reached that point, too. Surprising them was so fun.
Samantha was a little upset that she hadn't put on her red pants (which she had started to do when it was time to go, but she had changed her mind.) Ah well, worse things have happened than wearing green pants to Taylor Swift's RED concert, I'm sure. (Although Samantha doesn't think so. She thinks it was "tragical" that she hadn't finished putting on her red pants. If she had known where we were going, she definitely would have worn them.)
Happy, happy excited girls.
Shawn scored major Dad points with the girls on this one. Samantha said it made her life or maybe her millenium. That's serious points.
Although I haven't put much time in to listening to Taylor Swift myself, her songs are played often enough around here, that I do in fact, know most of the words. Really, my girls listen to, sing to, dance to, and play along to Taylor Swift songs almost daily. It was, admittedly, a really good concert. She puts on a good show and seems like a genuinely nice person.
Totally worth it.
