One of the fun things happening this summer to keep the kids occupied is a sculpting class. Grandma Cathy suggested the option and all of the kids were excited about the idea (even Jonas - which I didn't expect.) She signed them all up, and even better, she picks them up, goes with them and brings them home. Peter and I will hardly know what to do with ourselves for this 2 1/2 hours twice a week. (Oh wait, it will be just like when the kids are in school. I guess we'll get by just fine.)
Before the class started they all had to decide what they wanted to sculpt and find pictures of it.
Samantha is going the difficult route of sculpting a bust. She decided to make Shawn. (It's pretty clear who the favorite parent is around here.) I wish her luck on that endeavor.
Jonas decided to sculpt a heron.
This is the armature that he has to start with - like the skeleton. He's getting some instruction from the teacher.
Amelia with her armature and her big box of clay.
And Duffy with hers. Her armature is just a nail in a board. We'll have to see what she can so with that.
A pretty happy face for a tired girl. They left for their first class as soon as they got home from the last day of school.
Amelia working intently on her animal.
Duffy still smiling happily and waiting for instructions.
Progress. I can see the beginnings of a heron and a bust.
Duffy is making a bunny - her absolute favorite animal. (Despite the fact that she is actually terrified of all other animals, she says she loves bunnies. I wonder if that would be true if she had a real live bunny hopping near her?)
Yes, I see the similarity between the clay and the picture.
Kind of fun to see them all so focused on their projects.
So far, Toto here looks a little scrawny. I'm sure she plans to flesh him out a bit.
Getting closer to the picture, but still a little ways to go.
Jonas is working so fast that he may need to find another project before the class is over.
Ah, now I can see Toto...
And that is definitely looking like a bunny.
Day 1 done. Lots of progress, can't wait to see what they do next week.
