Shawn and Jonas spent the first week of summer vacation in Moab with the scouts. It was over 100 degrees every day they were there, but they had a lot of fun. (As documented in the million and one pictures they took. Beware.)
Scout leaders loading everything...
...while all the scouts stand around. Typical.
It takes some effort to get everyone organized.
The group.
And now, magically, they are in Moab climbing on rocks.
Finding shade was a must.
The theme.
Can't leave too much time for sitting around. These boys might find some sort of trouble if left to their own devices for too long.
Hydrating was a theme.
And eating. (This is a rare occurrence for Jonas. Although most teens eat all the time, Jonas is so picky, that he rarely finds something to eat on scout trips and camp outs. The leaders are always asking us, "What can we take that Jonas will eat?" We always tell them not to worry about it and figure that when he gets hungry enough he will eat something.)
Some frisbee.
OK, a little lounging in the heat was allowed.
This trip took it right out of some of the leaders.
Beautiful arches.
The scouts were not the only ones with the idea to visit Moab.
I think Jonas was drinking in almost every picture. That's a good thing.
That's a lot of people to keep track of. Glad it wasn't my job.
I'm glad that Shawn got to go with Jonas even though he's not in Young Men's anymore. It makes for some good bonding time - and good supervision.
Everyone here looks pretty hot and tired. Jonas hydrating again.
Fantastic photo of the sunset.
More hiking.
Cool rock formations.
Jonas.
The best part about this trip, was finding out that Jonas can take care of himself sometimes. He came home well hydrated and with almost no sunburn, even though Shawn had no part in reminding him to wear sunscreen and hat, etc.. There is hope!
In addition to the heat, they had huge wind gusts to deal with, too. Hence, Jonas holding onto his hat. Looks like fun, huh?
As a mother, this part makes me a little nervous.
But then again, that's not my kid jumping back and forth over that crevice.
Ah, shade.
Looks like there was lots of stopping and resting in the shade.
I believe this is Dead Horse Point?
Another rare occurence - Jonas smiling in a picture instead of making some dorky face. Must've been because someone else was behind the camera.
My boys.
Looks like they slept like a pile of puppies.
In spite of the previous 432 photos, they did more than just hike. They also biked.
An found little creatures and things.
Mmmm.
Glad to see all those helmets on those heads.
Another picture of the mass of stinky, sweaty, sleepy boys.
Once again, glad I was not in charge of keeping track of all of those boys on bikes.
Go pro self photo. Finally getting some relief from the heat and heading for the water.
But first, a crowded bus ride.
Shawn's feet.
The boats - or - the view from a kayak.
Seeing these picture brought back fond memories of my own river trips as a youth. I think I'd like to go again.
Is it just me, or is there a little more water in the boat than there should be?
Oh, look at that. Jonas having fun again. What are the chances?
OK. Definitely a water issue in the boat.
How is that thing even staying afloat?
And that, my friends, is the photographic documentation of a week in Moab with a bunch of scouts.
