The 4th of July Stringham Style

After leaving bright and early to drive Jonas and Robbie to scout camp outside of Evanston in the morning, Shawn came back and headed up to Snowbird for a 4th of July ski. Apparently, he was not the only one with this idea.I think he was glad to be able to ski in just a t-shirt as opposed to the usual multiple layers skiing generally requires.
Not the greatest snow for skiing but at least he can say he skiied on the 4th of July.
Meanwhile, the rest of the fam headed up Emigration Canyon to the Smolka's house for our annual 4th of July picnic. This has been going on with a group of my parent's friends since long before I was born and has just continued on and on, with the addition of children, spouses and grandchildren. The kids love going every year. It might have something to do with the amenities. There's a zip line, a swing set, a huge sand box, a volleyball net, and tons of grassy area to run around and play on. (Plus the pool table inside.) It did rain a little this year, but didn't stop the kids from enjoying the event.
Joey and Samantha put together a lovely little performance for me to watch on the glider.

And there was juggling to entertain the crowds as well. Really, this kid was pretty impressive with his mad juggling skills.

Mandatory cousin photos. Clearly, they weren't that happy with the idea.
So we moved on to silly photos,
and finally sort of got one semi-decent picture of a couple of them. Oh well.
Peter was in heaven, but I had to watch him all the time to make sure he didn't wander too close to the rushing water.
Even Uncle Jake got in on the sandcastle building.
Just out of curiosity, we drove by my parent's old house to see how things looked. Other than the basic shell of the original house, everything else was gone - the addition and everything around the pool in back. A little hard to take in, but I'm adjusting.
Since Shawn and I had to pack and catch an early morning flight, that was about all the celebrating we fit in. No fireworks for us this year. We'll have to make up for it on the 24th.
